Services

BASE Camp provides a year-round series of programs for children, parents, and families facing the challenge of living with cancer, to help them through and along the journey.

BASE Camp is an organization dedicated to children affected by cancer.  Members are children currently on treatment (or who have been off treatment for less than two years, or whose illness still affects their everyday life), siblings, children who have a parent on treatment, and bereaved children.  We have EIGHT (8) main programs maintained all year long.  Our primary program “BASE CAMP” is our unique signature overnight camp; symbolic of the encampments built as you climb a mountain.  At BASE CAMP you stop for rest, encouragement, nourishment, and strength to finish the climb.  BASE is also an acronym for Believe, Achieve, Support and Educate; four principals and philosophies we follow throughout all of our programs.

B.A.S.E. Camp

BASE CampB.A.S.E. Camp overnight camp is a ONE night monthly "camp" for children five to fifteen (5 to 15).  We often combine an activity that the whole family is invited to attend - ALL AGES!!

Parent Support Group

The Parent Support Group is part of our ACCO affiliation, an International support group for parents of children with cancer.  Locally we have a FREE monthly meeting held at various locations where childcare is provided.

Lunch & Dinner

Each Monday, BASE Camp delivers lunch to, and every Friday DINNER & A MOVIE for, the children and their families who are inpatient at Arnold Palmer Children's Hospital Hem/Onc – 4th Floor.

Lunch & Picnic

Each Tuesday (lunch) and Thursday (picnic dinner), BASE Camp provides a meal in the Playroom at Florida Children's Hospital-Orlando for the children & their families who are in Hem/Onc 6th Floor.

Food Baskets

Each month we have a food drive to collect a weeks worth of non-perishable groceries for 25-50 families.  You can help by donating food, or by delivering the food boxes to the Central Florida outpatient clinics and hospitals serving children who are currently being treated for cancer and other life-threatening hematology disorders.

Milestone Parties

Milestone parties are requested by child-life or hospital/clinic staff to help children and families celebrate important MILESTONES along this journey. Milestones include END OF CHEMO!, patient's birthday, port surgery, and even siblings or parents birthdays, or other events while the patient is in the hospital.  BASE Camp brings the dessert and balloons!

Patient Aid and Foundations

We help every family NAME A FOUNDATION IN HONOR OF THEIR CHILD, and with their struggle. BASE Camp helps to raise much needed patient-aid funds for each family to pay medical, living expenses, and utilities, etc..  We partners with families to save time, money, and energy on setting up a foundation.  BASE Camp Patient Aid helps each family build a fund to help them through this tough time.

2nd Wishes

Hundreds of children each year have a reoccurrence of cancer.  Sadly they are not eligible for another ONCE IN A LIFETIME Wish.  BASE Camp created a program for those children called 2nd Wishes.  We generally have a budget of $500 per child to deliver a fun 2nd wish:  ipad, gaming system, etc..
